On Friday I decided to visit the new Black Lives Matter mural displayed on 16th street (now Black Lives Matter Plaza) directly across from The White House. Local muralists with the DC Department of Public Works started early Friday morning painting the symbolic phrase that continues to echo amongst protesters nationwide and globally. Protesters from all races, ages, and backgrounds gathered to begin another day of protesting while also taking some time to dance in solidarity to music from a local DJ that played everything from "This is America" by Donald Glover to "Welcome to DC" by DC's own go-go band Mambo Sauce. (#DontMuteDC). Even some talented dancers attracted the crowd to watch them perform. The energy was definitely high and you could feel the range of emotions throughout but and as the crowd continued to grow larger the message remained clear - there is still a great deal of work needed to be done to prove to us that our Black Lives does indeed Matter.
